Oak's Dating Counsel (Posted April 7th)
A tip from Sister Parks
Here’s some good counsel from Elder Dallin H. Oaks given to young single adults at a CES fireside on May 1, 2005:
“Men, if you have returned from your mission … gather your courage and look for someone to pair off with… Men have the initiative and you should get on with it. If you don’t know what a date is, perhaps this definition will help… A ‘date’ must pass the test of three p’s: (1) planned ahead, (2) paid for, and (3) paired off.“Young women, resist too much hanging out, and encourage dates that are simple, inexpensive, and frequent. Don’t make it easy for young men to hang out in a setting where you women provide the food… An occasional group activity is OK… And, young women, please make it easier for these shy males to ask for a simple inexpensive date. Part of making it easier is to avoid implying that a date is something very serious.”

Before getting too serious with that special someone, be sure you know them well! A few suggestions:
1. A road trip can test even the best of friends!
2. Know how they look and act when sick
3. See how they handle tangled Christmas lights (can you say "stress"?)

Get out to meet people (Posted Feb 14th)
a tip from Sister Jeffs
The day before I returned from my mission, I had my final interview with my mission president and he gave me some of the best life/dating advice. He told me to go to all the activities that my singles ward would provide so that I give others a chance to get to know me. That advice helped keep me busy on weekends and I never had a dull moment.
I challenge all of you to do the same, get out of your apartments and get to every activity that you possibly can. Go find Ginger! That way you will meet people and others will meet you and that will provide friendships that could lead to lasting relationships Also, when you are at the activities you should follow Sister Park's advice about encouraging good conversation (see below for last week's advice).
Learn How to Encourage Good Conversation- (Posted Feb 6th)
a tip from Sister Parks
Most people enjoy talking about their ideas and experiences. Learning how to be a good listener and encouraging others to share their feelings takes practice. When you are conversing with others, focus on understanding what’s important to them. Ask questions that help others share their thoughts and values and then truly listen without thinking what you are going to say next. With practice, you might be surprised with how much you learn and how comfortable it makes others feel.
